Wyndham Clark Speaks Out After US Open Ban

Wyndham Clark has finally spoken out followingravaging his locker at Oakmont Country Cluband being prohibited from the course.

On June 16, Clark lost his temper during this year's US Open and damaged two locker doors, leading Oakmont CC president John Lynch to prohibit the American from the premises.

Over a month later, Clark has expressed regret for his behavior - and indicated that his next steps at Oakmont remain uncertain.

"That's their decision," Clark said to reporters on Sunday fromThe Open, via ESPN. "I truly don't know. I would like to think so. It's an amazing program and location, but that depends on them."

I committed a terrible act and I'm truly remorseful. I hope they can find it in their heart to forgive me, and perhaps one day I'll have the chance to play there again.

In a message distributed to the club's members, Lynch mentioned that the restriction might be removed if Clark covers the costs of the damage.provides a 'significant contribution' to a charity selected by Oakmont, andreceives therapy and/or anger control sessions.

Although Clark described it as an obvious decision to cover the costs, he appeared surprised that his actions had been revealed.

We had hoped it would remain confidential," he said. "I'll just leave it at that.

Oakmont will not host the U.S. Open again until 2033, when Clark will have reached the age of 40.

He claimed victory in the event in 2023, securing a 10-year exemption from the competition.

This year, he failed to advance following a bogey on the last hole of the second round.

Clark, who also experienced an outburst at the PGA Championship in May, discussed the mental challenges he has been striving to enhance over the past two years.

I've been quite open about my mental transformation and efforts to improve, which I started in 2023 and 2024, and then faced a difficult year with all the pressures and frustrations piling up, leading me to make two foolish decisions," he said. "But one positive outcome was that it woke me up and brought me back to the person I know I am and the person I want to be.

I hope those matters don't have any impact, as I don't believe they define me, and moving ahead, such situations won't occur again.

At the PGA Championship held at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, Clark expressed his frustration on the 16th hole during the second round by forcefully swinging his driver backward, resulting in the destruction of an advertisement board.

Following that event, he stated his behavior was "unacceptable," and added, "it's clear that I have areas I need to improve upon."

I set high expectations for myself, striving to consistently play for a purpose greater than my own, and yesterday I did not meet those expectations.

Clark's apology on Sunday followed a solid performance at Portrush, where he finished in a tie for fourth place with a six-under final round.
