INDIANAPOLIS — Stephanie White, the coach of the Indiana Fever, mentioned that Caitlin Clark is unlikely to play in Tuesday night's game as the team returns to action against the reigning champion New York Liberty.
Clark was unable to participate in Indiana's last game before the all-star break due to a strained right groin, and he also withdrew from Friday night's three-point competition as well as Saturday's All-Star Game.
Clark informed reporters on Saturday evening that she had been receiving treatment throughout the celebrations, which also occurred in Indianapolis.
She sustained an injury in the last moment of Tuesday's win against Connecticut.
Although she is showing progress, White stated, the Fever plan to be careful with Clark, who sat out 10 games in the first half of the season due to three separate muscle injuries.
She will meet with some doctors and undergo additional tests at the beginning of the week," White stated. "I don't anticipate her being available on Tuesday, so we'll just proceed day by day, allowing her to have the assessments early in the week. Once we complete that, we hope to gain a better understanding of the situation.
Clark did not miss any games due to injury throughout her college years at Iowa or during the previous season when she was named the WNBA’s Rookie of the Year.
A two-time all-star is currently scoring 16.5 points, dishing out 8.8 assists, and grabbing 5.0 rebounds per game for a squad that was anticipated to vie for a WNBA title. However, Clark's injuries and additional challenges have resulted in the Fever remaining around the middle of the rankings with a 12-11 record.
"These soft tissue injuries can persist until you have the opportunity to properly let them heal during the off-season," White said.
