Serum Mimics a Post-Laser Glow with Zero Downtime

It all started a couple of months ago at a beauty event during Art Basel. I was milling about the room when a beauty founder friend of mine told me I couldn’t leave without meeting Amy Peterson. I’d heard of her before — she’s a celebrity medical aesthetician with a confidential list of high-profile clients. As it turns out, she’s been working on launching her own line of products, inspired by the treatments she provides in her clinic located at the cross-streets of — you guessed it — Lenox and Sixteenth in Miami Beach.

As someone who has had acne for nearly half her life (I’m 31), I loved the concept — and could see why it was the talk of the party. A quick intro later, and Peterson herself handed me lab samples of one of her soon-to-be hero products, The Laser Serum , right then and there as we sipped on our club sodas. The name is a nod to the product’s brightening, resurfacing benefits — not unlike the in-clinic laser treatments Peterson is known for. Powered by a trifecta of lactic, glycolic, and mandelic acids, The Laser Serum gently exfoliates skin for a visibly brighter, even-textured complexion.

I really enjoyed seeing improvements in my patients’ skin after treatments like lasers or microneedling,” Peterson tells me. “But I struggled to find over-the-counter products that delivered similar results without a long recovery period," Peterson explains to me. "Take retinol for instance; many individuals struggle with it. This made me think that if I could develop something superior..." Thus, Peterson's ideal product came into being.

The Laser Serum , $219

When I arrived at my house, I retrieved the small, unremarkable vial from my bag and promptly incorporated it into my nightly regimen. Regardless of its plain container, the contents were akin to liquid treasure. By the end of one week, I observed noticeably softer skin with reduced blemishes ("It also works wonders for acne," she mentioned). Once I completed using both samples provided by her lab (thankfully, they gave me an ample supply), I became confident that this might soon become a leading brand in high-end skincare products. not something I throw around lightly.

At $219, it’s expensive. But compared to other similarly priced serums, I have to say — it’s worth every penny. “In office treatments and at-home care go hand in hand,” Peterson explains. “And I actually think in-office treatments inspire better at-home care because you’re trying to protect your investment.”

The consistency of the serum is light yet absorbs rapidly, accompanied by a slight tingling sensation. Following continuous nighttime application for two months, the persistent roughness near my chin and jawline significantly diminished, and the severe discoloration from acne on my cheeks became almost imperceptible.

After The Laser Serum, Lenox and Sixteenth is also set to launch The Preservationist —a blend of vitamin C serum and cream. "My aim was to develop a single product that encompasses all the benefits of vitamin C," explains Peterson. She notes that the effects on texture and radiance are remarkable. In addition to vitamin C, The Preservationist incorporates peptides and plant-based exosomes designed to enhance volume, improve elasticity, and reinforce the skin barrier. According to Peterson, patients often fall into two groups at clinics: those seeking correction for issues and others focused on maintaining their current state. However, she observes an increasing number of individuals interested in 'pre-aging' — essentially taking proactive steps using intelligent skincare solutions to prevent visible signs of aging and maintain optimal skin appearance.

For $249 individually, or included with The Laser Serum for $398, the luxurious and creamy formula is incredibly pleasant to apply. I've primarily used it nightly because it feels somewhat heavy for my oily complexion during daytime hours. However, it works wonderfully when applied before applying makeup due to its ability to create a glowing, hydrated foundation. My skin typically handles vitamin C without issue, including higher concentrations, so I enjoyed incorporating this product into my routine by layering it over The Laser Serum as a moisturizer. Depending on what my skin needed each day, I would seal everything in either with an oil application or another layer of cream. It’s worth noting that the dark brown glass packaging isn’t only aesthetically pleasing but also serves a practical purpose; it shields the contents from light and heat which could otherwise degrade sensitive ingredients like vitamin C.

I tell my team jokingly that I wish they could put me in every bottle so I could visit your home and check on how you're doing," says Peterson. "Our practice succeeds because I am deeply involved in everything. I aim to make a difference, witness progress, ensure things improve, and genuinely care about it.
